DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?

Exercises and treatment help for a while...
But then symptoms return

Niggling discomfort, pain that keeps returning, a body that doesn’t perform as well or move as freely as it should or aches and pains that have developed over time? You’re in the right place.

Pain that won't settle

Back pain, neck pain, headaches or joint ache that keeps returning no matter what you try. Rest helps for a while, but the issue often comes back.

A body that feels restricted

Stiffness, tightness or a nagging sense that you're not moving as freely as you should. Not necessarily acute pain. Just a body that doesn't feel quite right.

You want to get back to living fully

Running, cycling, the gym, swimming, or simply walking the dog, carrying the shopping, or getting through the day without discomfort. Things that should be straightforward, but aren't.
Osteopathy looks at the whole body and how it functions, aiming to understand what the body is compensating for and how, looking at the whole person which can give us information as to how your symptoms or restrictions have developed over time. Treatment then addresses these areas or issues, aiming to help the body become more adaptable and resilient.

Portrait of Kirstie Cousins - Leytonstone Osteopaths

Kirstie qualified at the British School of Osteopathy after a long career in sport and remedial massage, including over a decade as Senior Lecturer at the North London School of Sports Massage. Her post-graduate training spans a wide range of disciplines – from structural and cranial osteopathy to visceral, vascular and neural manipulation, pelvic and women’s health, paediatrics, and the Feldenkrais Method, in which she holds Guild Certification.

She has studied with Jean Pierre Barral for more than twenty years and is among a very small number of practitioners in the UK to hold the Barral Institute Diplomate credential, certified in both Visceral Manipulation (CVMP) and Neural Manipulation (CNMP), specialisms that most osteopaths do not offer.

She lectures internationally for the Barral Institute, is on the faculty for REBI, and has worked extensively with professional athletes, musicians and performers alongside patients managing everyday pain and movement issues.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

A hands-on approach focused on the musculoskeletal system

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that looks at the whole body - how it moves, where restrictions occur, and the relationships between different structures such as muscles, joints, the spine and the nervous system. Rather than focusing only on the area that hurts, an osteopath considers how different parts of the body influence each other.
The principle behind osteopathy is that good movement and function throughout the body supports overall wellbeing. When movement is restricted (through injury, posture, stress or habit), other areas can compensate and symptoms may develop. Osteopathic treatment aims to identify and release those restrictions to help restore better movement and function.
Osteopathy is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK. All osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and meet rigorous standards of training and practice. Kirstie holds a Bachelor of Osteopathy (B.Ost) from the British School of Osteopathy.

YOUR JOURNEY

What to expect

Every session is built around you, not a fixed protocol. Here’s how it works.

01

Book

Choose your clinic (Leytonstone or Shoreditch) and a time that suits you. First appointments are 45 minutes. You can book online, or get in touch directly if you have any questions beforehand.

02

Assess

Your appointment begins with a thorough case history covering your current concerns, medical history and lifestyle. Kirstie then carries out a detailed postural, movement and palpatory assessment. She looks at the whole body, not just where you feel pain, considering how structures connect and where restrictions may be contributing to your symptoms.

03

Treat

Hands-on treatment follows, tailored to what your body needs on that day. Kirstie draws from a wide range of osteopathic and movement techniques, adapting her approach to you specifically. Sessions are never rushed, and you can ask questions throughout.

04

Restore

You'll leave with a clear aftercare plan: practical guidance and exercises to support your recovery between sessions. Kirstie will discuss a realistic plan for follow-up at the end of your first appointment.

WHO WE WORK WITH

Osteopathy is for everyone

Whether you’re dealing with everyday pain and stiffness, recovering from injury or surgery, or simply want to move better, osteopathy can help. Kirstie works with patients of all ages and backgrounds.

Everyday pain & stiffness

Back pain that won’t settle, a stiff neck, aching joints, or a body that simply doesn’t feel as free as it should. Kirstie works with patients experiencing a wide range of general musculoskeletal aches and stiffness.

Athletes & active people

From elite athletes and professional performers to recreational runners, cyclists and gym-goers. Kirstie’s background of over a decade in sport and remedial massage means she understands the demands of active bodies.

Injury & surgery recovery

Recovering from a musculoskeletal injury, a surgical procedure or a period of immobility. Kirstie can support the recovery process by addressing movement restrictions and helping the body adapt.

Pregnancy & post-natal

Kirstie works with patients throughout pregnancy and in the postnatal period. Techniques and positioning are adapted at each stage to suit the individual.

Children, teenagers & seniors

Kirstie works with children, teenagers and older adults. Sessions are gentle and age-appropriate. For older patients she supports general mobility and age-related musculoskeletal concerns.

Occupational & postural pain

Pain that has developed gradually through desk work, driving, device use or repetitive physical demands. Many patients don’t connect their symptoms to their daily habits until assessment reveals the pattern.

“Osteopathy isn't just about treating pain. It's about understanding why your body isn't moving as freely as it should, and giving it what it needs to work better. Every patient, every session, is different. That's what makes this work meaningful.”
